Dr. David G. McLone, a former Crawford Prize winner, first started The Village Foundation to provide a camp experi- ence for children with spinal bifida and other neurological disabilities. The Village Foundation’s knowledge of medical issues is now paired with YMCA’s expertise in special needs camping to expand opportunities for these youth. NRF funds will help launch the Village Retreat at Camp Duncan YMCA. The Village Retreat will effectively use recreation to improve the mental, physical, social, and spiritual health of these youth. The camp will give them opportunities to socialize with others and will help set them on a lifelong path to achieving self-sufficiency.
