Horizons-Upward Bound
For 42 years, Horizons-Upward Bound (HUB) has been improving the quality of life in the Detroit metropolitan area by offering a program that encourages youth to view education as a means to economic and social mobility. Over 90% of HUB students enter post-secondary educational institutions, with about 70% earning college degrees. In partnership with other large funders, such as the Kellogg Foundation, NRF is supporting Cranbrook School’s Horizons-Upward Bound newly created mentoring program. The program was developed with contributions from the University of Michigan’s Office of Academic Multicultural Initiatives. The goal is to help young adults resist limiting stereotypes and increase a sense of leadership and self as a strategy to combat negative peer pressure.
